Photoshop - Isolating Objects

Before
  1. Isolate helmet with magic wand or a selecting tool.
  2. Select inverse.
  3. Desaturate selection.
  4. Gaussian blur selection.
  5. Voila!
After (black and white image + blurred background + blue helmet)
